Neville Bray – Founder and Managing Director

ourteam_nevNev has been involved in the building and construction industry since leaving school and commencing a carpentry apprenticeship in 1972. With other apprentices and his employer Nev learned his trade building new homes on the Mornington Peninsula. On completion of his training Nev started in his own business immediately and involved himself in house extensions and renovations, primarily in the Bayside area. Over the years Nev has been involved in all sorts of building projects - Large and small, domestic and commercial.

In 1994 Nev formed Bray Constructions with his long time ambition of creating a business opportunity for his children firmly in mind. It turned out to be even more of a success than Nev had envisaged, with the company now employing three of Nev's sons, a nephew and even one of Nev's sisters.

Garth Bray – General Manager

ourteam_garthLike his brothers, Garth's first real contact with the construction industry was working as a labourer during his school holidays. In the early days of Bray Constructions however Garth did bookwork for the company, earning pocket money while he was studying. Rather than continuing into the construction industry, Garth pursued studies at university and then entered the workforce in an IT based call centre and later worked in the finance industry.

Garth returned to the fold at Bray Constructions in 2004 after an invitation from Nev. As General Manager, Garth is chiefly concerned with the finances of the company and planning for the growth and improvement of the business. Now registered as a Domestic Builder – Unlimited, Garth is also involved in promoting the business, meeting with clients and developing relationships.

Away from work, Garth regularly sees live music, is a keen snowboarder, follows the Hawks in the AFL and the Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

Lukas Bray – Construction Manager

ourteam_lukas

Lukas commenced his carpentry apprenticeship with Bray Constructions in 1998 and became a qualified carpenter in 2002. Showing a keen interest in leading and managing sites during his early years it was opportune that the position of Construction Manager became available in 2003. With his father, Nev, showing him the ways of the office trade, Lukas quickly found his feet in the areas of project management, occupational health and safety and communication with clients, trades and suppliers. During 2005 and 2006 Lukas ventured into the area of sales. Upon learning the art of estimating and understanding what people want along with the contractual side of building, Lukas became an integral part of the Bray sales team. At present Lukas spends the majority of his time in the construction side of the business. Lukas is a past president of the local BNI group, which meets weekly in Hampton and is also an Occupational Health and Safety Officer. As a teen Lukas was a promising footballer however is now more than satisfied with the local standard of football as well as the social agenda that comes with a local football club.

Tony "Kenny" Bray – Site Supervisor

ourteam_tonyKenny commenced his carpentry apprenticeship with Bray Constructions in 1995 and became qualified in 1999. Kenny is last of the many apprentices who Nev trained directly on the tools. Since then Kenny has gone on and trained several carpentry apprentices himself including Lukas. After qualifying Kenny spent some years operating as a sub-contractor carpenter, working for Bray Constructions and other builders, but returned to work for Bray Constructions as a full-time member of staff in 2005. In his role as Site Supervisor, Kenny is mainly concerned with conducting safe, clean and efficient work sites while always managing schedules and quality.

Ken was once intent on learning all he could about French renaissance poetry and the best practices for making red wine, but now enjoys his time as a part-time sportsman. He has found some success at indoor cricket, he is a keen Collingwood supporter and always enjoys watching others perform at their best in their chosen sports.

Janice Harbert – Office Manager

ourteam_janice

Jan is Nev's sister and has worked with Nev for many years. Jan's title is the Office Manager, but everyone knows that she is the glue that holds the company together. When she's not making Nev and all of her nephews cups of tea and cakes or reminding them where to find whatever they're looking for, she's entering data and writing cheques.

Jan is a keen traveller, having covered numerous different parts of the world in recent years. Her most recent journey took her to Hawaii with her girls where she rode a motor cycle for the first time and her favourite part was relaxing in the pool.

Tomas Bray – Draftsperson

ourteam_tomasTom, the youngest of Nev’s three sons, like most of the other Brays has done his share of laboring for the company during his school holidays while growing up. At the beginning of 2005 Tom traded in his work boots for office attire when he started as Trainee Draftsman for the company. Tom had previously studied mechanical and manufacturing engineering which included units in computer based drawing. He was quickly able to adapt his skills in engineering drawing to the drafting of houses and has blossomed in his current role.

Now heading up the drafting department, Tom oversees all design projects by Bray Constructions and is regularly working in conjunction with award wining architect Leon Meyer. While still studying at night school to obtain certification Tom enjoys the creative side of his job most and loves seeing his ideas turn into a reality for his customers.

Luke "Wooly" Woolrich – Assistant Construction Manager

ourteam_luke

Wooly joined the company in 2004 immediately after returning from a stint of teaching Americans about our game of Australian Rules Football. Known to the Bray's over a long period of time, largely through local football connections, Wooly was recruited as an Assistant to the Construction Manager during a period of growth. While countless duties and tasks were discussed, Wooly's brief was simple: To support the Construction Manager.

Wooly leapt into his new role with great commitment and enthusiasm and has never looked back. Always willing to give something a try, his knowledge, understanding and depth of experience has grown exponentially.

Wooly is a real asset to the team with his “Do what ever it takes” attitude.

Outside the Bray group, Wooly is a senior and established member of the Springvale Districts Football Club where with much passion he plays a tough but fair style of footy occasionally taking on captaincy duties. When his own footballing duties permit, Wooly also likes to go and see the Hawks play as much as possible.

Edwin Muggleton – Quantities and Orders Officers

ourteam_eddieEdwin Muggleton, or Eddie, joined our team in early 2008 as our Quantities and Orders Officer and has quickly become an invaluable part of the Bray team. Eddie sits within eyeshot of the entry to our office and so is often the first to greet you when you visit us.

Although the role he fills was primarily established to support the smooth running of construction projects, Eddie has played key parts in estimating new work and lately has been instrumental in some new safety and compliance initiatives within the company. Eddie is in the final stages of completing a Bachelor of Construction Management and brings a strong work experience in large scale construction and architectural design as well as a new network of professional industry contacts.

Eddie is now an important part of our team, delivering results on a daily basis.

Brendan Hahn - Carpenter / Foreman

ourteam_BrendanBrendan Hahn joined our production team in early 2008 as a carpenter and wasted little time in becoming an onsite leader. Having already completed a Certificate IV course in Building Management, Brendan was clearly on a path to leadership roles and Bray Constructions was well placed to offer him opportunities in that area.

Having now established himself as a key member of our onsite team, Brendan continues to grow his skills and is fast becoming an accomplished site foreman.

Brendan married Kathryn in 2009 and is a frustrated St Kilda supporter.
